“The Tulip Stand” captures a simple yet memorable market scene through bold, expressive strokes that bring movement, color, and character into a space. Though minimal in composition, the piece holds a softness and vibrancy that allows the tulips to steal the show.

This work was inspired by a visit to the flower festival at the National Cathedral in DC where I spent the day appreciating beautiful blooms and the atmosphere around me. Tulips have always been one of my favorite flowers, and something about the simplicity of the stand paired with their vibrant petals made the moment feel special.

It was also my first time inside the cathedral, and I was completely enamored by its intricate detail and beauty. The festival was lined with food trucks, games, and lively music. I still remember the smell of the cinnamon buns and taste of the lavender latte from that day. “The Tulip Stand” became my way of capturing that core memory and preserving the feeling of it forever.
